Run-Hide-Fight
The Run Hide Fight technique is an active shooter response strategy that empowers individuals to take decisive action during an active shooter incident. The concept is simple yet effective, providing a clear plan of action to maximize the chances of survival.
Firstly, the technique encourages individuals to run if they are able to do so safely. The idea is to quickly escape from the immediate danger zone and find a secure location outside the premises. Running helps to put distance between oneself and the shooter, reducing the likelihood of becoming a target.
If running is not a viable option, the technique advises individuals to hide. Find a secure place, preferably with a lockable or barricadable door, and remain there silently until it is safe to come out. Stay out of sight and silence cellphones and other devices to avoid attracting attention.
Lastly, if running and hiding are not feasible, individuals are encouraged to fight back as a last resort. This involves using any available means to disrupt or overwhelm the shooter, focusing on incapacitating them and gaining control of the situation. The purpose is to create an opportunity for escape or for law enforcement to intervene.
By promoting these three actions in a simple and memorable manner, the Run Hide Fight technique equips individuals with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in the face of an active shooter threat.
Stop The Bleed
The Stop The Bleed program is an initiative aimed at equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills to prevent life-threatening bleeding during emergencies, including active shooter events. In these high-stress situations, severe bleeding can occur quickly and lead to death if not addressed promptly.
The program focuses on teaching basic principles of bleeding control, such as applying direct pressure, using tourniquets, and packing wounds with gauze or other materials. By empowering bystanders to take action, the Stop The Bleed program aims to save lives before professional medical help arrives.
During an active shooter event, the ability to control bleeding can mean the difference between life and death for victims. By providing individuals with the tools and knowledge to control bleeding, the Stop The Bleed program increases the chances of survival for those injured in such incidents. This program emphasizes the importance of immediate action, increasing the likelihood that individuals can provide necessary care to themselves or others until professional help can be accessed. Ultimately, the Stop The Bleed program is a critical response strategy that complements other active shooter response techniques, ensuring that bystanders are prepared to address a key concern in these emergencies and potentially save lives in the process.
